It launched on 4 October 1982 and broadcast on 96.7 FM, 97.6 FM, and 102.8 FM. The station went through several ownership changes, eventually becoming part of Bauer Media Group and rebranding under the Greatest Hits Radio network in September 2020. It primarily offered a mix of contemporary music, local news, and community programming during its operation as an independent station. The Wyvern name was retired after the rebranding.
