Detailed Introduction
Radio Caracola was a Chilean radio station that operated in the city of Valparaíso during the 1960s and 1970s. It was known for its cultural and educational programming, featuring music, news, and discussions on social and political issues. The station gained prominence for supporting progressive causes and was associated with the political climate leading up to and during the presidency of Salvador Allende. After the military coup in 1973, Radio Caracola, like many other media outlets linked to leftist ideologies, was shut down by the Pinochet regime. Its closure marked the end of its contribution to Chile's media landscape.
