Rádio Comunitária in Brazil refers to a type of non-commercial, community-based radio station authorized by the Brazilian government under Law No. 9.612/1998. These stations are intended to serve small communities, promoting local culture, education, and social inclusion. They operate with limited broadcasting power (up to 25 watts) and a maximum antenna height of 30 meters, ensuring they cover only their immediate area. Managed by non-profit community associations, Rádio Comunitária stations are prohibited from airing commercial advertisements but can receive sponsorships from local businesses. Their primary goal is to democratize access to communication and give a voice to underrepresented groups.
