Detailed Introduction
Radio Veronica was a popular offshore pirate radio station that broadcast from a ship in the North Sea near the Netherlands between 1960 and 1974. It was one of the first pirate stations in Europe and played a significant role in introducing commercial pop and rock music to Dutch audiences. The station operated without a government license, broadcasting from international waters to avoid Dutch broadcasting restrictions. It ceased operations on August 31, 1974, following the implementation of the Dutch anti-pirate broadcasting law, the "Anti-Zeezenderwet." Radio Veronica later transitioned into a legal, land-based broadcaster and remains a well-known media brand in the Netherlands.
