Boss Radio was a highly influential Top 40 radio format developed in the mid-1960s by programming consultants Bill Drake and Gene Chenault. It debuted at KHJ-AM in Los Angeles in 1965 and became known for its streamlined, high-energy presentation, focusing on short, personality-driven DJ segments and a tight playlist of hit songs. The format revolutionized radio programming and spread to other stations, including KFRC in San Francisco and CKLW in Windsor-Detroit.
