The Light Programme was a BBC radio station in the United Kingdom that launched on 29 July 1945. It primarily broadcast light entertainment, comedy, drama, and popular music, catering to a general audience. The station was created to provide relief and entertainment after World War II, succeeding the wartime General Forces Programme. On 30 September 1967, it was replaced by BBC Radio 2 as part of the BBC's reorganization of its radio services. Many of its programs and traditions were carried over to the new station.
